As the sun finally starts to make an appearance, there’s no better time to explore Dorset’s picturesque landscapes and the best of what this beautiful county has to offer. So, whether you're seeking vibrant festivals, the serenity of sandy shores or the indulgence of fresh seafood, Dorset is a haven for summer adventures.

Summer Events
A celebration of all things folk, Wimborne Minster Folk Festival has become one of Dorset’s most popular annual events. From 9th – 11th June, the town will come alive with Morris dancing, live music and traditional folk dancing that will have you moving your feet.
If you’re visiting with family, there’ll be a Lantern Puppet Show, arts and crafts in the Folk Festival Craft tent, and outdoor activities in Wimborne Forest Garden.
Camp Bestival is an annual family-friendly music festival in the beautiful grounds of Lulworth Castle. Taking place from 27th – 30th July this year, the festival will feature a range of live music, comedy acts and entertainment, as well as a dedicated Kids' Area with a range of activities and workshops. Visitors can also enjoy a range of food and drink stalls, and camp on-site for the weekend.
Join in the lively festivities of Swanage Carnival, eight days of fun-filled family events and entertainment for all ages, from 29th July – 5th August. This year’s theme is ‘Under the Sea’ because 2023 is the ‘Year of the Coast’. Expect a grand procession weaving through the town, live music, local food and drink and a buzzing community atmosphere.
Places to Be This Summer
Abbotsbury Swannery is the only place in the world where visitors can walk through a colony of nesting mute swans. The swannery is home to around 600 mute swans, as well as geese and ducks. During the summer months, you can take part in daily feeding sessions and guided walks.
Poole Harbour is one of the largest natural harbours in the world and it’s a popular spot for watersports and sailing. Visitors can take a boat tour of the harbour or explore via kayak or paddleboard. After, you can enjoy a drink or ice-cream from one of the many pubs and kiosks along the harbourside. The harbour is also home to a range of wildlife – you may even spot a seal or dolphin!
Located in Poole Harbour is the beautiful Brownsea Island. The island is home to a range of wildlife, including red squirrels and peacocks, and it’s a birdwatcher’s paradise. Visitors can explore the island's nature reserve, walk along its beaches and visit the historic castle.
Sun, Sea & Sand
Studland Bay’s four-mile stretch of beautiful sandy beaches is ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, sunbathing and picnicking. There are plenty of cafés, pubs and restaurants in the area and make sure to check out the famous Old Harry Rocks while you’re there.
Weymouth Beach is a classic British seaside destination with its sandy beach, traditional beach huts and amusement arcades. It's a great place for families, with lots of activities and attractions to keep everyone entertained.
Lulworth Cove is a beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay that's surrounded by cliffs and rock formations. It's a great spot for swimming and snorkelling, and there are lots of hiking trails nearby that offer stunning views of the coastline.
The iconic landmark of Durdle Door is one of the most photographed spots in Dorset, and for good reason. The natural limestone arch is breath-taking, and there are plenty of picnic spots in the surrounding area.
Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door get very busy in the summer months, so try and visit earlier in the day.
Charmouth’s shingle beach is known for its fossil hunting opportunities and it's a great place to explore the Jurassic Coast. There are plenty of guided tours available, or you can simply wander along Charmouth Beach and see what you can find.
For the Foodies
The Pig on the Beach hotel and restaurant in Studland is a must-visit for foodies. The menu is based on local and seasonal produce, with many ingredients coming from the hotel's kitchen garden.
Situated right on the beach at Burton Bradstock, The Hive Beach Café offers a delightful dining experience with breath-taking views of the Jurassic Coast. The menu focuses on fresh and seasonal ingredients, with an emphasis on seafood.
Located on the Weymouth shoreline, The Crab House Café is a renowned seafood restaurant, known for its fresh and locally sourced seafood dishes, such as crab and lobster. With its stunning coastal setting and relaxed atmosphere, it's a perfect spot to enjoy a seafood feast during the summer months.
