Events in Dorset this Autumn
Set sail for a day of family-friendly adventure during Pirate Weekend at Nothe Fort on the 7th and 8th October. It's a day fit for the whole crew!
Dewflock Farm in Dorchester is going autumn mad on the weekends throughout October. Its ‘Autumn Fun Weekends’ event will feature pumpkins, a maize maze, scarecrows, and indoor and outdoor activities to really get you feeling autumnal.
There are of course plenty of spooktacular events taking place across the county this year – we simply can’t mention them all here! One that stood out to us is a Murder Mystery Maze, Steam Train and Escape Room at the Picking Patch on Bickton Manor Farm in Fordingbridge (7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 20th – 29th October). Alongside the usual PYO pumpkins, there’ll be arts and crafts, marshmallow toasting, a pumpkin carriage, and hot food and drinks.
For the gin lovers (adults only!), you can try over 100 different gins from across the UK and beyond at The Gin to My Tonic Festival. To be held on 13th – 14th October at Bournemouth International Centre, your ticket includes a glass, bag, pen and steel straw.
During the October half term, the Science Fiction Sand Sculpture Festival at SandWorld, Weymouth is offering free entry for all adults and children in full fancy dress.
Known for its Christmas Reindeer Experience, Nutley Farm, near Dorchester, will be hosting a Kids Halloween Party. Get your scariest outfits ready!
Autumnal Walks and Cosy Pub Pit Stops
Ringstead Bay to Burning Cliff: park at Ringstead Bay and take a coastal walk towards Burning Cliff. This area is rich in fossils and the autumn season brings out unique colours in the cliffs.

Duncliffe Wood: located near Shaftesbury, Duncliffe Wood offers enchanting walks through ancient woodlands. The vibrant autumn foliage contrasts beautifully with the dark trunks of the trees.
Nestled in the nearby picturesque village of East Stour, Kings Arms Inn offers a taste of local hospitality and a relaxing setting to complement your exploration of the beautiful Duncliffe Wood. Fontmell Down Nature Reserve: this nature reserve near Shaftesbury is a great place for an autumn walk. You can wander through wildflower meadows and enjoy stunning views of Blackmore Vale.

There aren’t too many pubs nearby, but you could head to The Chalk and Cheese in the village of Maiden Newton for traditional pub grub, real ales and cider, and live bands and entertainment.
Stour Valley Way: follow a section of the 64-mile Stour Valley Way along the River Stour, which meanders through picturesque countryside. The autumn colours reflected in the river make this a scenic choice for a countryside walk.
There are plenty of cosy pubs for a pit stop along this popular route. If you choose to wander along the river in Wimborne, pop into The Olive Branch.
